Grace in Action was created with the tools and arts of community organizing. Prior to starting any project or proposing any agenda, Pastor John did 250 one to ones with neighborhood leaders and residents. After this time, we identified leaders, identified places for change and also assets within the community. The practice and discipline of community organizing has been a huge part of what drives our desire to continuously work with people to develop them as leaders and leads us to thoughtful change work that has a larger impact on our community.
We have worked with several locally based community organizing groups and have worked with neighborhood partners to create campaigns in our neighborhood around things that impact our lives in Southwest Detroit.
Here are some of our favorite community organizing articles and books

- Doing Justice by Dennis Jacobsen
- Building a People of Power by Rev. Robert Linthicum
